Songwriting

Laid Back and Lazy is just us—Sean and AJ—two guys who chased the Nashville dream back in the 2000s and somehow made it through without losing our heads (or our day jobs). We didn't know each other then; we were just two separate songwriters grinding it out in Music City, writing in little publishing house rooms, cutting demos, pitching tunes, and hoping one might stick. Nights were spent playing the Broadway bars where the crowds were loud, the tips were small, and you had to earn every listen. We got lucky enough to land spots in some of those legendary writers' rounds—at the Bluebird Cafe, the Commodore Grill, and a handful of other spots that felt sacred. Standing there with one guitar and a room full of people (some of them actual industry folks) was humbling every single time. It taught us more about honest songwriting than any class ever could.

Life eventually pulled us back to Northeast Ohio—each of us separately, thinking that chapter was probably over. We figured we'd keep writing for ourselves, maybe play a local gig here and there. Then, by pure chance, we got connected, picked up guitars together, and something just clicked. What started as two solo writers messing around turned into Laid Back and Lazy—a duo that takes all those hard-earned Nashville lessons and mixes them with the laid-back, real-life feel of home. We're not trying to reinvent anything; we're just grateful to still be making music we believe in, sharing it with good people at backyard hangs, breweries, and favorite local spots. It's simple, it's honest, and honestly, we're just happy anyone's still listening.

Songwriting ain't fancy—it's just real people turning everyday life into something you can sing along to. It's grabbing those ordinary feelings, stories from the backyard, the long drives, or the quiet nights, and putting 'em to a simple melody that folks can actually feel.

For the person writing the song, it's like sitting down with an old friend and finally saying what's on your heart. It brings **clear-headedness** when everything else feels muddled, lets you let go of the stuff that's been eating at you, offers real **healing** from hurts big and small, and straight-up brings **joy** when the words and tune finally click. It's good, honest work that eases the mind, cuts down the stress, and reminds you life's worth putting into words.

For the folks listening, a good song hits home. It sparks that warm sense of **connection**—like someone's telling your story, so you know you're not the only one going through it. It stirs up **empathy**, makes you nod and think, "Yeah, I get that." On rough days, it wraps around you with **comfort**, lifts you up with a little **hope** or a big smile, pulls at sweet **nostalgia** for better times, and just plain makes the day feel lighter. Whether you're kicking back with a cold one on the porch or driving down a back road, those songs give you a moment to breathe, reflect, and feel a bit more together with the people around you.

Bottom line, songwriting carves out these small, good spaces in a busy world—turning what's personal into something we all share, one easy, heartfelt tune at a time.
